How NectarAI Stopped Me Comparing It to a Generator

I went in through the free tier and picked someone out of their library instead of building a character, because I wanted to see what they thought a good default looked like. One of the anime ones. Tone playful. Typed something deliberately lazy to see whether she’d carry the conversation or hand it back. She carried it. Asked a question, then referenced my answer two messages later without me repeating myself.

That’s the whole pitch working inside a minute.

Nectar isn’t a general image generator that happens to allow nudity. Its own about page splits the product in two, image creation and roleplay. It’s built to keep a character alive across sessions, and once I stopped judging it as a generator it got better.

Then I built one from scratch, and that’s where the platform shows its hand. Body, face, hair, personality, voice, the lot. They count customization options as a selling point, 45 extra on the entry plan and over 350 at the top, which tells you the character builder is the product and the chat is what you do with it afterwards.

Images run on three models, Ultimate Realistic, Ultimate Anime, Ultimate Asian, with framing set separately for portrait, upper body or high resolution. First one I made was Ultimate Realistic in portrait mode, and the skin and hair beat what I expected from an app that treats pictures as the side dish. Asked for her hands in frame and got the mess this whole category still ships with. Switched to upper body focus and the problem disappeared, which tells you those framing modes exist for a reason.

She sends photos inside the conversation too, which lands differently from opening a generator in another tab. Voice and video calls sit on top. Fantasy mode is the one I’d keep: multiple companions in a single storyline, remembering the choices you made earlier. And roleplay runs in Spanish and Chinese, which almost nobody else here bothers with.

What NectarAI Costs, and Which Plan Is the Trap

The plans are where it gets less charming. Three tiers whose names run backwards: Premium is the cheapest at $9.99 a month, Pro sits at $19.99, Ultimate tops out at $34.99. Read Premium as the good one and you’ll buy the entry plan by mistake. Pay yearly and the prices roughly halve, which means Ultimate on the year costs less per month than Pro does monthly. Then the part that matters more than the money, and where it broke on me. Memory is what Nectar sells hardest, and memory is a paid spec: 8K of context on Premium, 16K on Pro. Roughly six thousand words of conversation on the entry plan. Push past it and she starts quietly dropping the earliest things you told her, the way someone does when they’re half listening. A detail I’d set in the first ten minutes was gone by the end of a long session. Nothing was broken. I’d used up the memory I paid for.

Their user numbers don’t agree with themselves: 500,000 on one page, 600,000 on another, over a million on the upgrade screen. Credit where it’s due though, Nectar publishes an anti-trafficking policy and a complaints page, and takes Bitcoin if you’d rather this didn’t sit on a card statement.

Would I renew? On the yearly plan yes, monthly no. If you know you want this, take Ultimate and pay for the year. If you’re not sure, use the free tier and skip Premium, because 8K of memory is the one limit you’ll feel.
